I have just received a quote for fitting of a Witter detachable swan neck towbar.with single socket ….…£477 inc VAT.
This seems excessive to say the least. Does anyone know if this is the norm or are they taking the pee. The quote was from towbarman not a main dealer.
And no I don't want to fit it myself.
Any comments welcome
Many thanks

An hour an half labour plus the cost of the towbar and wiring accessorys.
I bought a standard towbar for £67 plus £15 for a bypass relay. Fitted my self.

Why I asked on the forum was that I cannot seem to find a detachable towbar anywhere to buy and also don't trust my DIY skills at fitting it myself. I think detachable towbars are more expensive than flange type. If I could get one for a reasonable price it would be worthwhile seeing if someone could fit it with me for payment at half or less than half the price I was quoted by towbarhighpriceman.

Well Ime booked in with the local Indespension place next Wednesday for a tow bar with electrics to be fitted to my 58 XTR. Its a fixed ball Witter and they are charging £170 inc VAT. My local 'come to the door and fit' company wanted £190 plus Vat and another company wanted £220 inc VAT. When I bought the vehicle the Citroen dealer wanted £320 for single electric and I bet they would get it done by one of the people I got a price from. B robbers!!!

Baldricks Pilot, that is more like it, I asked them for a quote and they haven't come back yet. Even. Detachable should be half what the others were quoting. Thanks

My 'bar is a Witter it and was just over £100 2years ago, with delivery, ball and electrics included.
It takes on average (its been on my '10 plate as well as the Hearse) an hour and a half to fit including electrics and tea breaks.
Either you were wearing a clown costume while asking for a quote or they are trying to rip you off
Witter is a good choice -perfect fit and the finish is still good after two salty winters.

It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

I have seen detachable tow bars on eBay so maybe check there.
Mine was bought and fitted by an independent specialist locally, which happens to be the same place as the Citroen dealer uses and it cost around 330 euros.

I see the tow ball comes off but is it detachable as in take a pin out and your parking sensors work and you dont break you leg on the bar

A Citroen dealer will charge nearly £500 for a tow ball and electrics for pulling a caravan. You can get it cheaper elsewhere, but sometimes they don`t work properly. Mine didn`t (I got it for around £300) but the guy put it right.
