The eco mode shouldn't interfere with starting, is the battery now fully charged?
When I had a Xsara I'm sure it had an immobiliser, maybe that needs re-setting.

Starting the car will turn off Economy Mode for another preset period.
I changed the period using Lexia from 30 mins to 90 mins. Dead easy but you need the Lexia kit. Another example of the Dumbing Down we are all experiencing. e.g. parking sensors, distance sensors, auto braking - and that's just for cars. What about computers? - don't get me going!

I wish I lived nearer you. I would pay good beer tokens to have someone change that.
If I could find someone near me with a Lexia, is it easy enough to find the setting and change it?
And, is 90 minutes the max?

Another consideration with the Eco mode, it may be indication the battery itself is getting tired and the capacity is diminishing.

I only had Eco mode displayed when my battery was a bit low from starting & then not running the engine a few times, charging out of the car sorted that. It's probably the BSI sensing that the battery voltage is low. A failing battery which doesn't hold it's charge very well may have the same issues more quickly. Lots of places do free battery tests these days, with no obligation to buy.

It's a year or two since I made the change but from memory it was very easy. There is no limit to the time you can program in as far as I am aware. And, contrary to other comments on this forum, it is NOT an indication of a failing battery. It happens with any battery. The only way to reset it is to start the engine. How can that be beneficial to the battery?!
Elsewhere on this forum there is a list? of people who have Lexia and are willing to offer it as a service in return for a nominal recognition. Beer tokens etc. Worth a search. My Lexia runs on a Lenovo netbook which I stupidly connected to a non standard charger a year ago. Ever since then the charge circuit doesn't work. I am currently trying to load the software on an elderly HP laptop. It has to run Windows XP. I'll get there eventually!
Good luck - the change is well worth it. My Berlingo is 2005 2.0 HDi Multispace. Also have 2004 Picasso 2.0 HDi Exclusive. Lexia worked for both.

Big THANKS for that ^^^ Mike
Come the summer, I will be fitting a (modest) leisure battery system, but I still want to change the eco mode time out for day to day use. The leisure battery will be for camping weekends, laptop, lights, longer use of CB radio when parked up and re-charging Bose boxes etc.
Now, to find someone near me (10 miles south of Chester) that has a Lexia

My post (#26) above was based on personal experience just after I bought my Berlingo. I got 'ECO Mode' or something similar displayed as soon as I put the key in after opening the door. This was after starting the engine a few times but not driving anywhere. I took the battery out, charged it overnight and haven't seen that message since. It's quite possible that the message is also generated by other situations, but in my case I'm fairly sure it was a low battery.
The French Car Forum have a list of people with Lexia / Diagbox, I think the Peugeot Forum also has one. Here's the FCF link, you may need to register to read it:

Sorry - my comment about low batteries not being the cause of going into ECO mode was not meant as a criticism. You are quite right - it could go into ECO mode earlier if battery voltage gets too low, if the software is programmed for that. My point was that all vehicles go into ECO mode after the preset time. Most annoying when you are sitting there listening to the radio and you have to start the engine to continue. It should have been made easier to change the setting of the timeout period.
