Berlingo starting problem

Hi, just recently my 04 forte berlingo has been a little bit laboured when starting from cold in the morn. Also there is quite a bit of smoke when it finally starts? Any ideas please:S. Also, when i open the boot something clicks within and locks itself when it returns to the latch, so i have to lock all the doors to open it again:brickwall:....

Could be valve clearances, what mileage is it at?

Check glow plug operation & as Steve says,valve clearances.Good luck.

It won't be glow plugs, they only operate when it's zero degrees.

Is that right Steve, I never knew that, I bought my 52 plate from a garage and they told me to always use the glow plug on a first start up ??

Mine only starts after glow plug light goes out Steve had new plugs fitted 8 weeks ago

I had the same problem on another motor, new glow plugs cured it.
I was also told glow plugs always come on before starting unless the engine is still warm, nothing to do with the outside temp.
