A couple of glitches, mainly electrical!!!
#1
Hi, I'm just over a week into ownership of my new (to me) berlingo *cough * partner *cough* van. It's a 2008 1.6 HDI. I really like it but there are a couple of issues which are bugging me, and are mainly electrical, any first hand experience with these issues would be greatly appreciated:

1 - The windscreen wipers have a mind of their own, they seem to work ok for a while on intermitent and the press down single wipe, but then they go all possessed and either wont stop, or wipe for a random amount of times (1 - 10 times) then stop in the middle of the screen, until I move the stalk and the whole random process starts again.

2 - I've just gave it a service (oil and filters) and now the airbag light has shown itself and wont go off - I dont think I touched anything electrical other than the diesel filter electrical plugs during the service.

3 - The horn stopped working for about an hour on a drive tonight, then started to work again - no apparent reason why it stopped and then why it started to work again?

4 - Not electrical, but when I changed the fuel filter I noticed I didnt have a clear plastic drain pipe - no diesel is leaking but should I be worried?

5 - There is oil either leaking onto, or out of, the downpipe mesh, I'm assuming its leaking onto it from somewhere as there is no smoke from the exhaust - is there a common leakage area as I couldn't find the source? (its not a bad leak but a leak all the same)

Thanks in anticipation Big Grin

Helo Rex,
Firstly congratulations on your good tatse:whistle:

For your electrical problems, firstly do a search for a BSI reset. This can cure a multitude of problems. Whilst the battery is disconnected for this, pull apart the connector blocks under the front seats and give them a squirt of electrical contact cleaner then allow to dry before pushing back together, then complete the reset. Hopefully this should sort you out, if not, it will be likely that you will need a new Com200 unit, this is the switch arrangement on the steering column that the wipers and horn are controlled by.

Don't worry about the drain pipe, it's only to direct the Diesel into a container wwhen draining the filter housing.

These are not prone to particular oil leaks. The 1.6HDi does have an issue with turbos - threads on here about them. If bought from a dealer I would return to them to have all this investigated, if not either spend some time finding the source of this oil, or pay someone to do it for you.

P.S. What oil did you use when servicing?

If your Citroen Berlingo or Peugeot Partner 2003 (1.9 WJY engine and possibly similar), headlights stay on and heater blower and horn do not work then it will probably be due to the two Can Bus wires (red and white twined together) which run from the black fusebox under the (UK) driver steering wheel (Bsi module) to the passenger side engine bay fuse box which is also the Bsm (another body control module).

You'll probably see in the engine bay near the passenger side headlight area, that the wires have gone green in an area about 12 inches from the plug (which is top left in the engine bay fuse box). Remove what's left of the insulation and then cut & re-join the wires, removing the corroded area. It should immediately fix the above problem. We were told it was a Bsm module (which thanks to lazy Peugeot Breakers was impossible to find, and cost £400 brand new). Thanks to Peugeot Planet 2000, I was able to see the Bsi Fault code.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll do further investigations and look to try a reset too

I moved my seat position today and the airbag light went out so I'm sure its the connection block as mentioned.

I used fully synthetic 5w - 40, it was the most expensive so its probably the right stuff

I also changed the drivers door lock today as the key wouldn't open the door, I got the spare lock from ebay and it took all of 3 minutes to change it over with no door card removal so I was very pleased, I'll get the other bits sorted and it will be like new again .....
