This never happened with my Scenic.

Visited the local garden centre yesterday, and was just opening the rear to put my purchases in, when a couple parked close by. As they got out, the woman immediately clocked the Berlingo, and walked over.

"I don't supposed you know if these are available as automatic?" she asked, as her partner joined her.

I explained that mine was a semi-automatic, and what that meant. I also commented how I'd crossed the Berlingo off my list last year, due to apparent lack of automatic option, only to discover one in my local showroom a month ago.

We chatted for a while about how the gears worked, how much space it had, features etc. I reckon if I had offered them a spin around the block, they would have accepted, but I had places to go.

I had no idea that I had bought a trendy car! I was aiming for practical.

I've seen a couple of couples eyeball mine when parked at a local supermarket. One couple were old farts like me and the missus but the other one were young with a gaggle of rug rats in tow. Berli's are practical.
