1.6 hdi - Smoke and noise from left front area

After a very short trip today (600m), when stopping the car I noticed a lot of smoke coming from the left front wheel area. I opened the hood, but could not see any smoke around the engine. After that the smoke went away.

It is also a very high pitched sound from the same area after stopping the motor. Like an electrical relay?

The smoke reminded me a little of what i have seen before if the AC suddenly starts to leak a lot, but I do think this was exhaust gases.

I am pretty sure it is not the brakes because of the very short ride, I did not touch them, but at least they were not glowing red.

Any ideas for what is causing these problems? I am a bit worried

I had a Skoda that developed a similar sounding fault and it turned to be a sticking brake caliper. I am not a mechanic and can't advise on repairs. I would love to find out how matters progress. Good Luck.

Could it of been steam from the exhaust after a wet patch on the road???cratch:

I really don't know what it is, but it happened again today.
Smoke coming from the left front wheel area.
I tried to touch the brake disc through the wheel cover and it wasn't hot, so i don't think it the brakes.

I think it might be exhaust gases. Is the EGR-valve or something like that in this area?

This problem is gone.
Not excactly sure why, but i think changing the diesel filter did the trick. Maybe the old diesel filter leaked some diesel down on some hot engine parts?
