OBD Red discussion
#11
It's for diagnostics and code analysis & clearing - I would love to see configuration in there but I am not sure when that could be possible. The developers are experienced in this field so that could be a possibility. We can ask @ultraobd when he pops in.

The huge difference is, that it can access all systems, BSI, Engine, ABS, Airbags, Stereo, Comfort Electronics, everything. Nothing else except Diagbox can do that, and it can clear a code where Diagbox would require the module to be recoded first, then the fault could be cleared. Ultra OBD (as long as the Red OBD adaptor is used) can clear faults which would otherwise require coding like Multiplexed Additive Pump errors for example.

The developers ensure that all of the code definitions are correct and will continue to improve where any are found which are currently not known, they are able to update near instantly and the app has regular updates, so do the updates when it asks.

For £26 and able to carry in your pocket, with support for Android and Apple, which can do deep diagnosis on all systems in addition to the engine ones, this is a game changer and I wouldn't want to be without one.

No laptop required, or PC knowledge, no special abilities needed or any faff, it just works.

There's a lot of generalisation on that website, not enough hard data...

Does it work on Electrics? and if so what can it do then?

Hi @Gadgetman, I can't answer that if you mean EVs. We can ask that question of @ultraobd when he posts here. I can of course find out from them separately.

Do you have an OBD port? Does the electric van have a BSI? I don't know these things.

Let's see.

Remember, if anyone wants a good diagnostic tool that they can carry around, needing no laptop, and for a great price then feel free to get the Red OBD. It will likely work on all the cars in the family too, which is a huge bonus.

I am trying to help everyone. I am not financially connected and receive no payment for this item.

If it works for electric vehicles too, then happy days.

Two-folded question about the Red OBD interface bluetooth implementation:

It is stated to work in BT BLE. Can it be used as traditional Bluetooth device as well?
If yes, what is the name it shows in bluetooth discovery?

Asking because I'm using Android headunit which does not support BLE, and is picky about the bluetooth OBD adapter name: The interface bluetooth name would need start with "OBDII" to be compatible.

Hi @Gadgetman, I have a response from the developers while we wait on their account being activated (lots of new users are waiting, I think @Apollo is trying spam control)

We know that Peugeot 208 electric vehicle selection works perfectly. You can try the normal Berlingo selection once and then try the Peugeot 208 electric selection. This way we will know which ECUs have been added for the EV vehicle and will add them in the app as well.
If you have the chance, please be so kind and drop us a short note about this comparison.

Meaning, after the Berlingo test in the ULTRA OBD app go to Settings->Contact and just write a note "Berlingo - Peugeot 208 comparison". And the same after having tested the Peugeot.

We will compare the results and implement the new ECUs for the Berlingo electric vehicle as well

Hi @Drummond,

Reply from @ultraobd:

Quote:Our response:
As explained by @Sol before, the reason we can access all these ECUs on a Berlingo is twofold.

a) the RED OBD Adapter has several multiplexers built-in. These are required to access the Berlingo ECUs, since they are not connected to the normal communication lines.

b) the ULTRA OBD App manages the correct multiplexer to access the corresponding ECU on a specific line.

As long as the headunit can connect to normal BLE OBD adapters with any name, it will work fine. However, if the headunit can only connect to normal Bluetooth OBD adapters where even the name is restricted to be OBDII, there is no chance - basically due to the reasons explained above.

Hi @geoff, excellent. Please feed back here on your experiences. Can everyone also mention the vehicle they have if it is not in their signature. This helps the software devs.

Thanks.

I've ordered one. I had a Ross-Tech VCDS cable (VW group cars) for my old Yeti. Hopefully my nearly one year old Berlingo won't be kicking out error codes just yet but it's handy to see what's going on.

Thanks @Sol for the work and the link to the device, sounds like a great thing. I will certainly order one if it supports M59 as well and not anything equal or above the B9. Will it work on the M59? Apologies if I have missed it in the several threads about it.
