Central Locking, Is it aftermarket or stock?
#1
Big Grin
Hi, I recently decided to try and fix the central locking on my Berlingo which stopped working about 3 years ago. It stopped working because a friend clicked the unlock and lock button many times quickly inside the car, and it suddenly stopped working. I thought that maybe it blew a fuse but it didn't. I know for a fact that on this Berlingo when it was new, the first owner did send it to an official Citroen dealership to get central locking fitted. I however and confused whether it was fitted with a OEM central lock system or an aftermarket one.

I took the door panel off from the driver side door, and found that the locking pin (the red thing that goes up or down when the car is locked or unlocked - not sure what its called Big Grin) is connected to something at the bottom right of the door - I've attached an image.

This electrical thing is connected by a green and blue wire, and goes above the fusebox under the steering wheel, and then goes somewhere under the facia. Same thing on the passenger door, again, goes under the glove box and under the facia.

I am also attaching a picture of the remote that I have, that used to work to lock and unlock the car.

To further confuse me, the Berlingo is missing the lock/unlock button under the 2 central A/C vents. - All images online of M59 berlingos have that switch.

My question is, is this an OEM or aftermarket central lock. Also, if aftermarket, where could the receiver box be mounted, since i'm hoping it has its one standalone fuse that has burned out. If its OEM, how do i diagnose it? since the fuse under the driver side it OK, and I definitely know that it stopped working in the way that I mentioned above.

Thank you for any suggestions on the mater Smile

That doesn't look like a Citroen key so I would say it's aftermarket. The sensor position could be anywhere so it looks like a job of following the wiring. The solenoids or actuators whatever you call them look aftermarket as well.
So where does this bit go then ?

The key is citroen, ignore the small key in the picture, it ulocks a gate. The key i jave is the OEM key, just without the central.

I dont know where it goes just yet, and wanted to know if its OEM or aftermarket so I dont have to take apaft the whole interior.

Ill post in a few hours if I find it.

It looks aftermarket to me , I had a similar setup on one of my old Berlingo's and it was aftermarket, the fob gives it away and the solenoids which pull down the locking rods

That's not a Citroën Keyfob.

This is how it should have looked if factory installed:

And this is a Replacement keyfob, which might have been used if it was a genuine Citroen kit used;

Older Berlingos might even have a single button keyfob. I'd post a picture of the one that belonged to my M49 (1999 model), but it died during the spin cycle and yeah, it looked like kind of a horror show at the end...
Before 2000, the central locking was a separate device, with the receiver hidden in the sidewall beside the rear passenger seat on the driver's side, then it got integrated in the BSI...
so it's possible that they used a number of different manufacturers on those cars.
