Timing chain/belt noise/issue
#1
Hi,

Recently bought a K9 Berlingo manufactured in Q3 2019. Previous company who owned it stated that valves, timing belt & cam chain had been replaced after an
engine breakdown roughly one year ago. I expected that they had done the whole swap to 8 mm with cams and top as well.

Turns out now when I've got the car that it has the old product number is imprinted on the casing which means it has the casing for the 7 mm cam chain.
I contacted the previous owner which said that the chain and tensioner had been changed for a newer "better" version.

My questions is - is it possible to fit the 8 mm chain and tensioner in the valve top/casing?

I cant ask the workshop who did it directly because it has gone out of business (it was owned internally by the company owning the car before). But I've been
assured it follows all the service intervall to this point for them to keep their Citroen service agreement.

I brought it to a Citroen dealer because I've been hearing some very light noises from the top/drive belt. They couldnt identify the noise but was also
worried about the fact that it still had the old casing. They had no experience with the 7 mm chain since before so couldnt answer if the 8 mm would fit.

I'm also hearing an additional periodic noise from the drive belt/timing belt area sometimes. This seems to be from non oem timing belt pullies.
Only replaced a year ago but seems to be fairly common. Anyone got experience if this is an issue?

Gonna try to record the noise and post it here during the weekend.

Best regards,
Noiz

Is it easy to see the number imprinted on the casing?  When I took my 2020 van in to a dealer and asked if they could check which chain it had got (and see what condition it was in), they said they'd have to open everything up and it would be a major job.

You might be interested to know that they also said that the 8mm chain doesn't necessarily prevent the chain breakage problems that these engines are prone to, and if the chain does break they usually change the entire engine because the plastic tensioner breaks into pieces that fly off inside the engine and they don't know where they end up.........
