Central locking playing up

I have a 2003 berlingo van everything's Okey with her apart from the central locking, everytime a the vans opened with the remote key and When any of the back 3 back doors or passanger door is closed them doors lock straight away, leaving the drivers door open.. The drivers door does lock when I lock it from the key but.. The guy I bought her off a couple of days ago says its the vans dead lock system but I have noticed that the button on the dash that locks and unlocks doesn't work either.. I was just woundering is the guy I bought it off right or is the locking system messed up ?
