Belt tensioner
#1
Hi,
So I've been playing around with my little problems on my 1.6 petrol m59. Just replaced the alti cable faster as it had snapped due to corrosion (probs the original so 20yrs old) as I was looking over things, I saw that my tensioner is the manual adjust type and so I'm wondering wether I could replace it with a spring self adjust type? And if anyone else had done this and how it has been since. The reason for me looking in the first place is that the tell tail turning squeel had increased. Belt looks new but will be replacing it regardless and if I can replace the belt adjuster at the same time I might as well.
Thanks in advance
Dan

Not sure if they are interchangeable, but interesting line of thought. Got a noisy manual adjuster myself and refuse to pay the money for a new one. The route I'm going down at the moment is to disassemble the current unit to find out what size the bearing is and replace that individually. Will report back when I have sizes etc. Maybe a route you could go down if you have access to a press to disassemble/reassemble.
