Sunken fog lamp
#1
Hi,

My 2022 Berlingo (PureTech 130 Flair XTR) has a problem: the front nearside foglight has fallen down into the housing. You can reach your hand in and rattle the light, it's loose and pointing mainly upwards.

When the car was serviced on Friday the dealership told me a mounting bracket had broken and I needed to find a bodyshop (they didn't have one) that could do "plastiweld".

I see no damage to the bumper or front, I don't think the car has taken a knock. I think this is failure of the mount.

Questions....

Has anyone else experienced this?  Is this a known fault, something likely to affect the off-side lamp too after a while?

Do you think I could claim this on the car's warranty? It's not yet 3 years old so the original warranty must still be in force.

Thanks!

Sounds like you should be able to claim on the warranty as it is definitely defective. Not had any problems with my 4 year old XTR (touching wood)

Update:

Thanks to a local body shop run by a great bloke called Colin, the bumper and fog light are fixed. One hundred pounds, thank you.

Close examination revealed that someone must have bumped me at some time: there is a small crack in the black bumper, and the shock had been enough to cause the fog light housing to detach.  Colin had to remove the bumper and clip everything back into place. Definitely wouldn't have been covered by the warranty, of course, and not worth claiming on insurance. What annoys me is that the dealership where I had the car serviced could have done this but didn't, claiming it needed the services of a body shop (which they don't have) capable of doing "plasti weld", which in fact was not necessary. Well, they probably would have charged more so maybe no bad thing.

Next question: is there an effective and inexpensive way to repair a scratch / crack on the black bumper?

As it's a fairly small crack and not load bearing, I would just use a small amount of flexible filler sand it down and then spray paint it with plastic trim spray paint [Halfords sell spray cans of it] Obviously clean the whole area thoroughly first and if you can unclip the orange trim, that would make the process easier.
On a related subject have you got a dash cam? I would consider fitting one, if not, as if you get one with impact detection it probably would have caught whoever damaged your car in this instance. I know from experience that they can make claiming from a third party a lot easier if you have captured footage.

Thanks, Multispacer.  I will check out some YouTube vids along the lines of the repair approach you suggest.

No dashcam.  Does make you think it might be an idea though.

The incident could have happened weeks ago too, I noticed it only because we had some fog lately and I checked my fog lights were working.
