Tyre tread depth when new
#1
My K9 1.2 petrol came with summer tyres and due to country regulations I swapped to all weather tyres. I've been running Fulda MultiControl 205/60 R16 96V XL and I'm happy with them but they are getting low on tread.
What I'd like to work out is a rough average of how many thousand kilometres I have done per mm of tread.

In order to do so I'm trying and failing to find what the tread depth was on them when new.
Can't seem to find that info though on any websites I look at. Any ideas other than contacting Fulda themselves which I will do if necessary (but know they'll more than likely ignore my mail or take too long to answer it)?
Now a 2019 K9 1.2 petrol.
Before a 2010 B9 1.6 HDi diesel.

Standard new tyre tread depth on car tyres is 8mm, do you have any reason to think that Fulda tyres would be any different?

I asked because I had no idea there is standard depth. I'm sure Fulda wouldn't be an exception then. Now I know. Thanks.

It occurred to me today that if the depth of new tread was 8mm, my car has done 109,000km but 75,000km on these Fulda tyres and the depth left is 5mm - I've "used up" 3mm in 75,000km. As the legal allowed depth in Germany is 1.6mm (call it 2mm for rounding up), theoretically I still have 3mm in hand - so another 75,000km.
Seems extraordinary.
In fact, too extraordinary.

I see you're in Germany, is a lot of your driving Autobahn driving, as that could be a factor in the low[er] tyre wear? Or just a sensible Berlingo driver?  Smile

I note on this site: https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/Fulda/MultiControl.htm

a user reporting that they were down to 5.5mm after 45000km [and that the 'wet' grip was not great after that]

Interesting link, thanks. I note the 2nd reviewer tells of the centre tread wearing before the outer - which to me is indicative of "user error" with tyre pressures as a first thought.
You are right about my driving being sensible but I think the major factor is the mount of motorway driving. If you imagine a triangle with its points being at northern Germany, Bosnia/Balkans and southern Spain then I have regularly been going between them in any combination.
I think for safety reasons anyway I'll start looking for a new set.
