Crank pulley issues 1.4 05 Multispace
#1
Hi all,
I bought a timing belt kit today for my 2005 Berlingo 1.4 petrol multispace and appear to have an issue with the crankshaft pulley. I removed the 3 x 13mm bolts and expected  the pulley to come off, in never moved. I then removed the main crankshaft pulley nut and tried to pull it off. I’d did ride forwards with persuasion but I can’t be sure that it’s not pulling the timing belt pulley off with it. Something doesn’t feel right, so it’s always the best policy to stop until I take some. advice. I need to remove the pulley to gain access to remove the plastic timing belt cover.
The last thing I want to do is to disturb the timing gears before I’ve had the chance to lock them.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Thanks.

The pulley should come off when you remove the 3 x 13mm bolts, you don't need to remove the the main crankshaft bolt.

The pulley may be rusted in place so you will need to use a hammer & a piece of wood to persuade it to come off.

Take a look on YouTube there's quite a few videos showing the timing belt replacement on the 1.4 engine (it doesn't matter if the video shows a different car the engine is the same)

Here's one of them . . .   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW6VV_hY...nicforcars

Cheers.

It's unlikely that you would disturb the timing with the belt and tensioner still in place.
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Thanks for the help. It did eventually come off with my 3 leg puller but fortunately the edge got chipped and I’ve got a new pulley coming today.
Whilst the car was in its current state, good weather and I had the time, I decided to change the head gasket. The signs are there and I’m pleased that I stripped it down. I’m taking the head to be skimmed today and hope to have it all finished tomorrow or Wednesday.
