What’s the best Berlingo MPV?

Hi guys, I’m looking to change my 508SW for a Blingo MPV and wondered what the most reliable version of the engine is that’s available?

Ideally, looking to buy something secondhand around a year old.

What year did they do away with the 1.6 HDI?

Are the diesel engines, more reliable or economical than the petrol?

I’m interested in purchasing a boot jump, is there a particular model variant that works best?

Hi @Devs.  Only just seen your post so apologies for the late response!

You're probably sorted by now, but I just thought I'd give my experiences.

I own a 2016 1.6 HDi. This vehicle has been great until around a year ago when I stopped using it for long journeys.  Now I tend to just go around local and have been getting the warning light advising "risk of particulate filter blockage".  So I have to give it a good long hard drive so it clears itself.

The modern ones have DPF and Adblue which can cause problems, though I guess that's probably the case for many diesel engines.

So in answer to your question - petrol if you're doing mostly short runs. Or even electric depending on the range you require.  My diesel does between 55-60 mpg on a long run, but I now have to do a 20-30 mile lively drive once a week to keep it clear.   Vivian.
