Is this a problem coming?
#1
I have a 2006 1.6Hdi.

When starting, as the engine cranks sometimes (not always) the needles on the gauges all jump to 'zero' with an audible click.

Been happening intermittently for a week or so, and I've only noted it when starting first drive in the morning.

No other signs/symptoms to report.

Any helpful thoughts pls?

Thanks
Rob

Could be signs of a weak battery and the cluster is dropping out during cranking ???

Thanks. Could be. No other signs however of a weak battery (apart from acknowledging the current one's age).... but I get that cranking from cold is likely the highest 'strain'?

Anyone else had this symptom?

First check should be to measure idle voltage, preferably first thing in the morning before starting the engine.
Whilst the meter is to hand measure also the voltage with engine running.
Next I’d go to a tyre shop and get the battery load tested, usually free.
Alternative view :
If the car is a keeper and given the apparent age of the battery I’d replace it anyway, at least you’ll get the use out of it.
Last battery I bought was about £62 delivered ( Tanya )

What geoff said...

Likely a battery going off. If I were you I would give it a very good charge, one of these smart charger thingies. See if that helps when it has been just off the charger. It will give you a good indication if you do not have multimeter or too much of a hassle to go to the shop for a load testing.

Cheers, good tips and yes I have both a multimeter and a smart charger, so will try that too. And when I look in the file, I dont recall buying a battery and I have had the vehicle four years, now. So can't complain about that!
