After some advice...my steering became heavy couple of days ago, did the usual checks, power steering fluid levels and tyre pressures, both fine. Checked good old Google and you tube and followed the turning wheels lock to lock several times incase any air in system, I thought I'd cracked it as drove it to work straight after and was lovely back to normal, but then driving home few hours later back to the heavy steering again. Tried again today, fluid level doesn't go down at all during process and no signs of leaks, so no topping up needed, no nasty noises coming from pump, or steering. Steering was lovely and light again after 15 lock to lock repetitions. Left sitting for 3hrs, now back to heavy steering, the fluid does look pretty dark. Really hoping it's nothing serious/expensive...what do you think? It's a Berlingo Multispace 1.6hdi '57 plate.

I 've heard that the UJ at the bottom of the steering column can stiffen up and cause the steering to appear stiff ,
Worth a shot of wd40 type stuff?

Not certain but I think your power steering pump is likely to be the culprit, when ours went there was no loss of fluid
