Lots of questions in there but there are things you need to consider before any purchase. I see you want to be able to put in your wife's wheelchair in the rear and have a hoist fitted.
The modern diesel engines fitted [not only in Citroens and Peugeots] but all vehicles after about 2010 all have DPFs [Diesel Particulate Filters] fitted and those after 2016 also have AdBlue to reduce emissions and comply with the various standards introduced around the World, plus Citroen/Peugeot also had an intermediate system [Eolys] fitted between about 2012-2017 as well as the AdBlue. While these all reduce emissions they also add a lot more complexity to the engines with a plethora of extra sensors monitors everything so there is a lot more to go wrong and modern diesels can quickly turn into a nightmare of faults if you only use the vehicle for short journeys. If you plan to do a good number of longer journeys and some motorway journeys, then yes a diesel would make sense but otherwise steer clear of them. modern diesels with DPFs will clog up fast and cause all sorts of problems if just used for short journeys all the time. If you are going to only being doing short journeys then look for a petrol model, the problem being there are very few compared to the diesels around.
You are right in wanting to go for a manual. The 'Auto' box in the Berlingo isn't a real auto at all, it's a sort of semi-auto and they are problematic.
The Berlingo XTR model is a higher spec model and amongst other things has the advantage of three separate rear seats [rather than a split 60/40 bench on the lower spec models] which means you can remove, one, two or all three rear seats to give you more space.
I have a very early Berlingo Multispace XTR [2008] but the dimensions are the same up to 2018. So for the boot are with the three rear seats in place, the dimensions are:
Width 47"
Depth 36"
Height 43"
The Peugeot equivalent of the Berlingo is the Peugeot Partner and it is mechanically identical to the Berlingo.

I have a 2016 Berlingo 5 seater and it is perfect for carrying a wheelchair. And the XTR also comes with some extra features like roof rails and skid plates.

Hi graceland
Do you want a hoist? I have one removed from a 2016 Berlingo.
Do bear in mind that if you're just storing a chair in the back (as opposed to a person on a chair), you may not need anything more than a shortish folding ramp, eg, https://www.theramppeople.co.uk/wheelcha...lti-option
Hoist is a bit too specialist for me to comment on.
