A slightly cryptic message.....which readers/viewers of the 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' will understand  Wink

My Berlingo journey has ended [and in fact my Citroen Diesel journey] all the way from owning a ZX 1.9TD estate, through a Xsara Picasso 2.0Hdi and then Berlingo M59 1.6Hdi and finally my B9 1.6Hdi. A combination of not doing the miles anymore and also living very close to the outer edge of the London ULEZ zone has meant the 'lingo was traded in today for a smaller petrol vehicle.

I would like to thank all those on the forum who have helped me over the years and hope I have been able to help some users on here also.

I'll pop back occasionally to see if there is any help I can give to users but it will be less often.

In the meantime, I'll will shortly put up for sale various bits/pieces that might be of use to people who own Berlingos

I can honestly say it was one of the most practical vehicles I've ever owned and would probably have bought a newer one but my shorter journeys do not suit modern Euro-6 diesels and I haven't got a great lot of confidence about the petrol 1.2 engine with the 'wet belt' system.

Regards
Multispacer....

I've pondered the eventuality but still have not seen any alternative to the vehicle I have become so used to.
Painted myself into a corner perhaps......
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Curiosity - which petrol vehicle ?

Nothing like as practical as a Diesel Berlingo but as I stated circumstances changed, less miles now, living on the outer edge of London ULEZ which I go into quite regularly to visit relatives and not needing to transport kids around any more [they've all grown up]

Went for a smaller supermini type vehicle but still wanted some extra space, so went for last generation Nissan Note [built between 2013-2017] It's a three cylinder 1.2 petrol with a supercharger [yes you did read that right a supercharger] which gives the small engine a bit more torque. Seems pretty good on petrol, and good interior space. Has a quite unique rear bench seat that as well as folding flat like most vehicles can actually slide backwards/forwards to create extra luggage space even with the seats up.

Vehicles were built in Nissan Sunderland plant, and spares [for what I've looked at] seem good prices. Engine is Japanese designed and uses a cam chain rather than a belt. I also wanted something that I could do [at least some] of the servicing myself as with all my previous Citroen vehicles.

There is a good video UK review of it here: https://youtu.be/Eoku2YdfxJQ?si=BKHZq8Nrkk0goW2m

The other good thing about the 1.2 supercharged engine is during the years of production of the Note [2013-2017] the 99g of CO2 means a UK road tax of ZERO every year [after 2017 the UK put even low emissions petrol vehicles up to £190]

I'm sure there will be times when I'll miss the sheer practicality of the Berlingo but as I've stated in my previous post, I don't do the miles to warrant a diesel any more and the modern Euro-6 diesels with al their DPF, ADBlue etc do not like short journeys and I just don't like the thought of a 'wet belt' 1.2 petrol engine [who thought putting a belt in engine oil was a good idea?] for what I've read they're fine when newer but once they get a bit older bits of rubber allegedly start to clog oilways.

So for now, it's the end of my Berlingo journey  Sad

Cheers for the follow up.

" We " have often wondered what we will drive once the Berlingo is gone ( probably when our dogs are no longer with us ) and it isn't an easy choice so to hear of the routes others take is interesting and informative.

Cheers !

Why not just pick up a used e-Berlingo?
All the space you're used to, and a battery pack well-suited for shorter journeys...

Real men don't have 'range anxiety', we go straight for the full neurosis!

I haven't got range anxiety, unfortunately I've got 'out of my price range' anxiety  Sad

Here in the UK, all the incentives for getting an electric vehicle have been eroded. I would be much happier to get an electric vehicle as we live in an 'all electric' house and have solar panels and a storage battery.

Whatever anyone does to replace their diesel Bingos, don’t ever buy a Dacia! Jogger for that matter. We bought one to replace our C4PG as we needed seven seats but no longer did the miles to warrant a diesel. After 8 months of owning that car, 3 months spent in the garage from new. Flywheel and clutch failure plus other numerous faults!

Traded it in for a used C5 Aircross diesel as we now need a diesel again. If you’re downsizing I’d highly recommend going for the C3 Aircross as a replacement for the Berlingo.
