TU3JP (KFW) Replacement with TU3JP (KFV)
#1
Hi All,

Great to be an apart of this group & owner of a Berlingo MPV. I LOVE my van and dont want to sell it... Anyway, My Berlingo is a 2004 (M59) , 1.4 8V (TU3JP - KFW) Engine and it suffered catastrophic engine failure. I have sourced another engine from a 2002 Citroen C3 1.4 8v (TU3JP - KFV) engine. The engine looks 97% identical to mine. I would like to know if the (KFV) will be a straight fit since im using my alternator, power steering pump etc and will it be compatible with my ecu?

Any Advice will be so greatly appreciated.

The big differences will be automatic timing belt tensioner on the 2004, I believe, and possibly different injectors(Sagem/Bosch I don't know when they used which), but that can be ignored unless you intend to mess with the ECUs.
Now, the ECU...
The High-pressure fuel rail may also be different. One model has a pressure valve at one end.(disc-shaped lump of metal), the other model doesn't have this, the valve there is at the fuel pump. you don't want the rail without a valve connected to a pump without one...

Generally, you want to use the ECU that came with the engine.
But from 2003, I believe, this got connected to the BSU and coded into the system.
You may be able to do the recoding using a certain program that's a blatantly pirated piece of buggy Software (Lexia), I don't know.
Or if the new engine uses the same model injectors as the broken one, you may be able to get away with reusing the old ECU.
(They are to a certain degree 'self learning' so... )

The bolt on parts will fit without issues. Citroën doesn't waste time and money changing molds or castings on a working model.

Catastrophic engine failure?
Those things are nearly bulletproof, what did you do?
