Heater fan motor... ...again.
#1
Hi, everyone - thanks for existing!

I've got a 2011 Berlingo Multispace, 1,6HDi
2-zone fully automatic AC
...in Norway, so my car is left-hand-drive.

My blower motor will not do its thing, and I'm soon about to start crying like a baby, since I simply cannot find a solution.

First my resistor was blown, since a shortcut in the internal sublevel in the engine bay fusebox fried the magnetic compressor switch for the AC, witch in turn killed subsequently fuses and resistor.
For a while I got the motor running again, but only at full speed (malfunctioning resistor)

Changed all fuses. -all of them good (cabin fusebox F14, engine box F11 and MF1)
Bought a new resistor.
Bought a new blower motor.
Bought a new engine bay fuse box

At this point I'm reading a healthy output on the plug TO the resistor AND out of the resistor. Both the old and the new motor runs perfect with direct connection of power from a battery.
...but none of them will run on the juice from the output plug from the resistor.

I've read a gazillion threads, but alas; I'm dumbfounded and close to a bloody mental breakdown.

I KNOW there's a relay sooooomewheeere, but I'm unable to locate it.

...but surely there should be no power on the output connector from the resistor if the relay is blown???

ANYONE?

...please help me. I'm just a simple mountain monkey of the north...

Regards, Hæggis

Hello, the relay is located [in a UK RHD car] up above and behind the passenger glovebox, so bearing in mind Citroen would not have changed the position of the relay it will be buried high up above where your steering column is on a LHD car, which will be a pain to get to. Not that it is any consolation but the fan blower and resistor are up above the steering column on a RHD car [whereas they would be on the passenger side on a LHD car] and are not easy to get at..

Relays can fail in more than one state and I've seen where they've failed with the contacts closed 'welded together' because of heat and that causes all sorts of problems.

If it is the same type of relay that was on my B9 [I had air-con but not dual zone] it should be a green, 'plug-in' type relay.

Not sure how expensive parts are in Norway but if you locate it and post an image with the part number, I think I still have a good one in my garage from my time troubleshooting my fan failure problem [I swapped the relay but in my case I actually had a seized blower fan] If it is the same part number I could post it to you for the cost of just the postage.

Thanks for reply.

Just spoke with my former mechanic where I used to live, and he informed me that my multimeter obviously just measure the current, not the actual power (amps).
...and; the resistor for the 2-zone AC is digital, with a built-in relay...

He could also please me with the information that the fuse box I've purchased (from used parts dealer, based on registration number) is incorrect for my model.

Ooh, happy days...

Back to scratch - going to have to drive an old Passat on my trip.
