Radiator Fan and battery issues
#1
Hi all, I'm after some advice please regarding an ongoing issue.

for the last 3-4 weeks the van has been struggling to start and the battery has died multiple times. I've had the alternator replaced as this was showing inconsistent voltages however 2-3 days later the van again failed to start. I have now replaced the battery for the short term.

I have had a guy out who has tested the voltages to the alternator and battery and everything is as should be however the radiator fan runs for around 10 mins after switch off even from cold.

he has tested the battery with the radiator fuse disconnected and has shown that this is draining the battery and I have replaced the external temperature sensor (drivers wing mirror).

The dashboard is still showing temp as '---' and fan still running after turn off.

I had the dpf removed and cleaned around a year ago and have read that the '---' showing on the dash could mean the van is trying to regen hence the fan running?

any help much appreciated.

Many thanks
Alex

Hello , I know the outside temperature showing —- will stop the van from doing a regen but I had a similar problem to u , fan running for ages after I switched off and it turned out my egr was knackered and that was stopping it from doing a regen hence why the fan was on lots . Might be worth replacing the egr and see if that stops the fan staying on
