Horn not working.
#1
Hi There
is there anybody with a deep enough understanding of a 2012 Berlingo van electrics. Here is a rundown of my actions so far.

Testing with Diagbox v9.1.

BSI

F997               ENGINE FUSE BOX

                        FAULT IN HORN CONTROL CIRCUIT

ENGINE WIRING HOUSING

F997               HORN CONTROL FAULT.

BODWORK CONVERSION UNIT

F997               NOT DEFINED.

Removed horn from the van and checked with a battery. Horn sounded.

Horn connector, green cable checked and confirmed a direct short to chassis.
Other cable had 12v with ignition on.

Substituted horn with meter, with engine running showed 12.8 volt. Pressing steering wheel horn button voltage raised to 14 volt.

Would appreciate any help as I have been unable to get hold of a decent circuit diagram.

This thread may be of help, I think there were some wiring diagrams as well in the thread.

You may have voltage at the horn but is there enough current ?

may be a high resistance in circuit.

Substitute a headlamp bulb for the meter and then press the horn button - if it doesn't light up or maybe very dimly it would prove this theory.

Once proven you can work backwards along the circuit doing the same test to see where the resistance is.

^^^ unless of course you have a DC clamp-on ammeter to use instead

Thanks very much for that, have had suspicion along those lines as the horn resistance is around 3 ohms (which is almost a short), my motorcycle horn is around 50 ohms.

Turned out to be both the horn and the connector. When horn connected to harness, there seemed to be a case of not properly mated. Thanks for your advice.
