[Warning Light] Orange triangle

Hi guys , I currently run a 63 plate berlingo 1.6 hdi 97000 miles 
Last week a small orange triangle appeared on my dash with a warning saying engine fault repair needed 
The van seems to be in limp mode while the light is on , 
I got it taken up to a mechanic with a computer and the lad came back saying it’s the electric cooling fan switch / sensor that’s faulty so I thought this sounds simple I’ll order one 
So I can’t find one to buy and after a bit or reading apparently the fan is controlled by the ecu in my van so I’m a bit lost and confused at this 
I presume there is a sensor to tell the ect the engine temperature or how does it know when to put the fan on ?

Don’t know if it helps but the van now runs at about 80 degrees while on the road

Does fault code P0493 or P0494 come on? If so, it is the faulty fan speed resistor, located in the front of the car behind the bumper, next to the colling fan.

Yeah after a bit of reading I have ordered one of these this morning, trying to decide whether to cut a hatch under the bumper to access it or try and remove grill / bumper . Thanks

There is no need to remove the bumper, you can get acsses from the bottom via an opening panel and insert the tool through the grill. A bit tricky but doable.
