I have just joined the Forum as the Berlingo is what I drive & I have read some very interesting posts which are very helpful so I have joined, the car i use is a 58 plate Multispace XTR 1.6HDI & it got a bit poorly just before Christmas, it turned out to be the EGR valve which i found info on here, the mechanic kept going on about the common rail & gave me codes to research, which lead to a discussion about changing the EGR valve - so he changed that & got it going again after 3 months. (up until then the car had been trouble free)
But when i got it back the lights & wipers turned themselves on after i had parked & locked the car.
It went back, mechanic took it to auto electrician, after a week it was returned - everything ok - auto electrician had carried out some wiring & now, it seems everything has been closed down until key is in ignition & key turned but not started. This means the rear door only opens when key in ignition & ignition on.
So - I thought that was it solved but alas, now when i turn on indicator, sometimes it flashes very fast & only front indicators operate, but other times it seems to be working ok.
I got in car the other day started car & all was fine, then realised i had forgotten something so went back to where i was, then returned to car 5 mins later & started the car, but now the indicators were only working at front but flashing really fast.
I have checked the rear light fittings & bulbs earths etc but now wondering what could be problem - I have seen some discussions about BSI, & one discussion about a member who repaired another members BSI.
If anyone has any ideas i would be truly greatful for any advice or direction.
Welcome to the forum. Do you know if your model is the M59 or B9? The M59 is the silver one here. Once we know you can ask in the relevant subsection, and get a more accurate response to your queries.
Best wishes and hope you get the issue resolved fast!

Someone may be able to move this thread to the relevant subsection, or you could look in that one yourself, you're more likely to get a quicker response in there.
The B9 is definitely the better looking with the more streamlined looking lights. I wasn't aware of a model number until I started on here either.

Sean from your initial fault, I would suggest it is not gong to be the BSI. I had exactly the same fault as you on my 2008 1.6Hdi Berlingo Multispace [re: headlamps on and wipers operating with the ignition off when parked up] plus I had all sorts of other random faults, in my case 'STOP' warning appearing on the dash ABS faults etc.
After a lot of fault finding my problem [and looking around on line this affects a number of PSA group vehicles not only Berlingo models, so a bit of a design fault] was the engine bay fuse box. The thing is it is not just a fuse box but also has a circuit board on the base that communicates with the BSI. This is prone to water damage, reasons being either the scuttle drains at the ends of the engine bay get blocked with leaves and other debris [you need to take off the wipers and the plastic scuttle cover to check these are clear] and when these are blocked the excess rain water goes into the engine bay and goes straight onto the fuse box/circuit board causing the kind of problems you list [and many others]
In my case, it wasn't actually rain that caused the problem, what had happened in my case was that a rodent had taken up residence in my engine bay fuse box and used the area as a toilet and completely killed the circuit board. It turns out even with the lid on there is enough of a gap where the looms go into the box for small rodents and water to get in!
One of the indications that your engine bay fuse box has been affected by liquid damage of some kind is to make sure the vehicle is in 'sleep' mode, ie if you have started it make sure you leave it a decent amount of time for everything to shut down [5+ minutes] then disconnect the battery, then take the lid off the engine bay fuse box [it is adjacent to the battery] and pull each fuse out one at a time and check for any corrosion on the legs of the fuses. If there is any evidence clean off the corrosion from the legs and spray the legs and the socket that it plugs into with ELECTRICAL CONTACT CLEANER [make sure you only use electrical contact cleaner as other substances like WD40 can cause all sorts of problems on electrics] Some users have reported that just cleaning up all the fuses and sockets fixed their problems.
In my case though, as stated, the underside circuit board was dead due to rodent abuse! The only good thing is that if you do have to go down the road of replacing the whole board [it comes complete as a fuse box/cicuit board] it is a simple DIY job and no coding/programming of the unit is required.
I ordered a used unit from a supplier on Ebay [it was about £40 delivered] and it took only about 20 minutes to change.
The one thing you must make sure you do, if you go down the replacement path, is that you get the EXACT same part number of box as a replacement, as the boxes have been used on a large number of different PSA group vehicles that have different functions depending on model and are not all interchangeable.
As I said right at the beginning, with your initial fault being the same as mine [wipers/headlamps] I think it's a good bet this box is the likely cause. Let us know how you get on!

Many, Many Thanks Multispacer for your in-depth & very informative interesting reply, I will certainly do as you say & try that fuse box, I had seen a post where a user had said he replaced the fuse box & it solved his problems, this was mentioned to the mechanic prior to him taking it to the auto electrician.
Apparently the auto electrician acquired a fuse box, but found it was faulty, then rather than get another fuse box he decided to alter the wiring .
I will have a look for a fuse box - the mechanic has mentioned numbers & getting the exact match, so i will investigate.

I don't like the sound of 'he decided to alter the wiring' Was that on the new fuse box or your vehicle??
Anyway where to find the part number for your vehicle is as circled, As I stated before you need to get a part number match as these boxes and their associated electronics are used on many different PSA group vehicles.

No - I did'nt understand his logic, I had made a note of all of the possibilities & the fuse box was top of the list - which i wrote on a couple of A4 sheets gathered from this forums disscusions, The mechanic said the auto electrician had ordered a fuse box which arrived but he said it was in a poor state.
The mechanic I use has always been reliable - but since December its been quite a bind, When i first mentioned the EGR he said No he doubted it was that Then after he replaced the EGR valve & got it going, when i got the car back & there was an issue with the lights & wipers +the heater fan did not work, I suggested that as it had been sitting & it was a wet winter & it had been outside during all that time with no heat, it could have got damp, Oh No he said that would'nt make any difference - I was pulling my hair out, researching & finding answers on here & feeling I could have done it myself.
I regret now that i did not just sort out the fuse box myself, & I can't understand why if when the auto electrician received the fuse box he said he ordered & found it was in a poor state, why he did not get another one.
Well I have ordered the fuse box today & mine has the exact same number as the one in your picture 9664706280 - I hope your not going to say that the one in the photo is surplus to requirements ?
I appreciate your help & concern, I will await the fuse box which should be with me by Fri/Sat, its a bit of a concern now as to what the auto electrician did, & weather he was an auto electrician as the wiring is a bit odd looking
Thanks again - lets hope that solves it - but then will the auto electrician reverse what he has done?
