Air con light on

The air con push button light always comes on when turning the ignition on.
It will stay on until I turn it off,  this can't be right surley.

The air con automatically switches on when the temperature dial is near minimum. It is possible to have the temp at minimum by clicking the air con off, but next time the ignition is turned on, it will automatically revert to air con.
Well it does on mine anyway.
