Additional android auto / car play display
#1
I asked for help on how to open the rear view mirror cover so I could add an additional display screen up here

We are out and about a lot  so I wanted the ability to have a different map from the main one on the built in display (I have two phones)

I purchased a cheap android out / CarPlay screen from eBay for £44

Tool the mirror cover apart, used cut up cable ties through drilled holes then refitted

It’s great to have extra mapping / Google services

Comes on and off with ignition and auto connects wirelessly

It looks like it’s obscured the mirror which it is a tiny bit but the pics make it look worse due to angle

Hope it helps someone

Some of these wifi screens come with a front and rear view camera so you could probably stick one rear pointing camera to your rear window and have a constant feed of DVR images fed into it and view the rear in split screen.

Yeah I was looking at those, as I get older I try to keep things I do as simple as possible.

If I was to do this again I think I’d try a rear view mirrored shaped screen that runs android / CarPlay and mount it just above like I did

A video feed for the mirror is fine until it starts playing up

I’ve been running Gaia maps on it, very interesting, i discovered that there is a source of a river very close to my house

I mounted my rear view camera monitor in the same location. It may be a coincidence but I've noticed that my rear view mirror no longer auto-dims at night. The sensor is at the top of the mirror and I wondered if my camera monitor is obstructing the sensor making it inoperative. I notice that your display also partially obscures the sensor; is your rear view mirror still auto-dimming?

I’ve not noticed, but I’ve never really noticed the auto dimming, now I’m trying to recall if I’ve driven it in dark enough conditions since fitting

Will report back
