[Engine] Is it the end for my engine...?
#1
Hi

I have a 2004 Partner 2.0 hdi Siemens.

Lately, it's been burning oil like crazy... heavyyyy white smoke under moderate acceleration (see photos). Changed the turbo because the old one broke. Runs smoother but still blows white smoke like crazy and has a lot of Blow by (from oil cap and dip stick)
Is this the end? Could it be something salvageable?

Thanks for any feedback

White smoke is coolant burning ,black smoke is oil in my experience. Head gasket gone? Coolant need topping up regularly ? Any white residue, water in the oil? If that is the problem and the head is alright replace the head gasket and it might live again!

Hi

Thanks for your reply!
No, not at all! Doesn't need topping up and Doesn't loose any coolant, nor white residue, no water in oil or any of the symptoms.

The smoke is grey/blueish and smells like burnt oil. The only thing that needs topping up is oil

When you say you have blowby, that is the tell tale sign of worn piston rings.

Blue Smoke is oil burning

White smoke is typically seen on start up as this is atomized diesel due to low combustion temperatures

Black smoke is over fueling, usually down to bad injectors or pump.

Sounds like oil smoke. Wonder if it ate a piece of the last turbo when it let go? If so could be damage to pistons, rings or both. Did it smoke before the last turbo failed? Either way probs be cheaper to replace the engine or whole car, definitely easier. Just another thought, is the replacement turbo unit new, recon or second hand? Could be the turbo at fault??

Compression test the engine to discount rings but unfortunately there isn't much more that could pressurise the crankcase to that extent. Is it down on power/lumpy idle?
