Interior fan is sporadically working
#1
Hello everyone,

I am new here and hoping to get some help:

I have the following car: CITROËN BERLINGO MULTISPACE (B9) 1.6 BlueHDi 120

The problem I have is that the interior fan does work sporadically. I have recorded it for your reference. You can see it in google photo here:

Do you have any idea what could be causing this problem?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, welcome,

Does the fan do this on all speeds, or is it just on one speed setting? Depending on this, I'd hazard a guess at the switch, or part of the control unit behind, like the rheostat. It doesn't sound like a fuse has gone. Previously, in a much inferior xsara picasso, my fan wouldn't work on return from holiday. I switched off, and on again, and the fan was permanently on full. Garage said that was the rheostat. This is what has lead me towards that conclusion.

Hope this is of some assistance, and you find a solution shortly.

All the best.

Hello LukeC,

thanks for your reply. Regarding your question: Does the fan do this on all speeds, or is it just on one speed setting?

Yes, unfortunately the problem is on all speeds.

I'm thinking that it may be on the control unit, you may need to get a diagbox, or *I think* redodb - one of the pinned posts, to diagnose the faults to see where it lies. This I'm not sure of, as I'm not so mechanically minded. The alternate could be a costly garage fee.

Had similar problem with ours. The resistor pack had been replaced by a previous owner so I eliminated that from my investigation. Removed the fan motor and determined that the brushes were worn down to a point where occasionally they would not be making contact with the commutator. €50 for a replacement motor and fan from the breakers sorted that out. 2009 Multispace.
