Timing Belt HLX Recall
#1
Hi, after having a 2001 M49 Berlingo for the last 23 years I've just upgraded to a 2018 B9 (and having regrets!)
Have been reading about the oil/timing belt problems with these and as its 6 years old contacted my local dealer for a price (when I bought it I thought it wouldn't be due until 10 years like the M49) They informed me that the timing belt would have been done under the HLX recall in when it went in to a dealer (not them) in May 2023
However they couldn't say whether it was definitely changed or just examined and deemed to be ok.
I don't want to spend £500 unnecessarily but obviously need to do it if it hasn't been done. Can you tell by looking if a belt is likely to be 1 year old or 6 years old?
Does anybody have any more info about that recall please?
Many thanks

https://www.citroen.co.uk/maintain/safet...check.html.

This link should tell you if your vehicle is due a recall check.

If not then its either been done or is not needed.
Try it and see.

Thanks for that. It was definitely recalled but the Citroen dealer I bought it from (Snows, Basingstoke) said as they didn't do the work they didn't know what was done.
However just had a reply from my local Citroen dealer who found the job on the Citroen system and it shows a Timing Belt as one of the parts used. They said any dealer could have done this!
Draw your own conclusions about which was the best service

The conclusion , from the way they work they want you to worry about and get it changed again and relieve you of some of your hard earned notes , you can buy a tool to measure the belt on the bay of e £8 to £10 , if the belt has not expanded the tool will fit across the width look, for tiny cracks on the wet belt with a bright torch , the new belt is made of a new compound , but i would keep an eye it anyway , They are looking after them self only , sail over .
? what have they done with the unused belts ? recycled
