Hi all - Newbie here. Advice required on Berlingo purchase.

I am yet to become a Berlingo owner, but my present ride is a Rover Maestro diesel van which I've had for ten years and needs to go to a new home where it can receive the care and attention an old Maestro needs. Having perused the interweb I've come to the conclusion that a Berlingo with seats would be an ideal replacement; good for use as a car, as a van and as a campervan. I like the physical looks of the Berlingo and think it could be quite fun to have one.

I would like some advice as to what to go for and what to avoid. I'm quite happy chugging along at a steady pace and I like economy and lots of mpg. I'm not too interested in speed, acceleration and sporty performance. I think a diesel engine would be best but which one? 1.6, 1.9 or 2.0 ??? Which diesel is the most economical and are there any issues or problems with the various diesels?

I have around £1500 to spend and wouldn't want to go above £2000, so it means an old one with a few miles on it but as the Maestro replacement would be a second vehicle, that's fine.

Any hints and tips would be welcome.

I think that your price range should find you a reasonable,slow & indestructable 1.9 diesel.
Look hard & don't buy the 1st one you see(unless it's been owned by a man of the cloth with full s/h).

I'm a newbie.
I'm retired and needed a versatile car for leisure but that sat that bit higher than the normal saloon.
I bought a brand new out of the box Berlingo XTR Diesel 15 months ago.
I really enjoy it and find the easily removeable rear seats a great advantage.
The internal roof rack can carry a full size door, and that has been a big advantage to me as a keen DIY-er.
If I have one gripe, it is that the back door needs a good slam to close, if all other doors and windows are closed.
When I took it to Redhill Citroen at less than 1000miles they only succeeded in making it worse.
If I have a window open, then the back door closes just by it's own weight, like it's supposed to.
Anyway I have now travelled 18000 miles including eight or nine trips to the Moray Firth in Scotland, without any hassles, and I really enjoy the drive position.
