droplink change
#1
Hi all, my 04 has a rattle noise from the drivers side droplink. This looks like a really simple replacement bt never done one before....anything I shold be aware of before I start?

Cheers Karl.

Jack up both sides. Also a good idea to do both sides at the same time as one usually follows the other.

If you only jack the side that needs changing it's a pig to do as the roll bar is under pressure from the wheel on the floor.

I also gave the bolts of the new ones a good dose of wd40 to help protect them rusting for easy future replacement.

also one other thing to remember when replacing is!!! the nuts have a tendancy to turn along with the shaft so use a suitable TQ socket and driver to hold the shaft whilst you unwind the nut.

I find that the torx/allen hole often round off. A mechanic friend of mine showed me a short cut. You will often find one nut will undo and the other will spin round. Undo the one and pull the droplink out from that mounting. Now, with a bit of brute force the ball and socket joint at the other end will pop apart just by levering the droplink around past the point of no return. Once you've popped it apart you can then get a molewrench onto the ball to stop it spinning and undo the nut easily.

Wd40 is not for that and prob not very effective, a tin of copper grease is about 5 euro, if your going to do it do it properly
