2000-2004 Berlingo/Partner fault code readers

Hi all, thanks for the advice so far on information on Berlingos. I am going to look at some 2.0hdi diesel vehicles as they are the model I think may suit me best. Apart from the usual things to inspect on used motors, I wish to investigate the electronics/engine management system before I commit to buy anything, as I've been advised to do by people here. The vehicles in my price range (up to £2000 approx) are from years 2000 to about 2004. I've read that some fault code readers don't work on some models and if I am to get myself a code reader it may as well work on the year ranges of Berlingos/Partners I'm interested in. So does anyone have any information on what fault coder reader to buy before I go looking at second hand cars please. Sorry if this has been covered before but I haven't found anything to help answer my question. Any comments and suggestions welcome.
