How many miles
#1
My Berlingo has been with a mechanic for a while trying to get to the bottom of it going into limp mode. There are 163k miles of the clock.

How many miles are people getting out the 1.6 engine?

I've got just under 200000 on the one I have now, 380000 on the last one.

That's impressive
Our Mercs at work had to be scrapped at less than 250k
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

You haven't stated the age of your Berlingo with the 1.6Hdi, that is relevant as the earlier models [pre-2010] with the Euro IV diesel engines didn't have either a DPF or Eolys/Adblue system, so much less to go wrong. These if serviced correctly can do mega miles without problems.

The later models with DPF/Eolys/Adblue can also rack up large miles if used on lots of regular good long motorway type journeys. What 'kills off' modern diesels a lot quicker is when they are only used for lots of short journeys and don't get regular good long runs, this shortens the DPF life and often causes 'limp mode' as does failures of the Eolys or Adblue system that all add complexity into modern diesels.

Given the higher cost of diesel and the problems outlined above, its' only really worth getting a modern diesel now if your going to be doing relative high mileage [at least 15000 a year]

My previous Citroen diesels have all given good service and although like all vehicles they had problems, none ever had any major engine problems but then the latest model I had was a B9 Multispace [2008] with a Euro IV diesel.

It's a 2016.

I do motorway mileage on my weekday commute with a few short trips at the weekend. I had hoped to get over 200k  out of it at least. Still hoping the mechanic will get to the bottom of it.

I'm just in the process of replacing my engine. The old one packed up at 365k. Can't complain at that.

Mine with 304,000 km (approx.190.000 miles), 2016. Good running condition, I'm the first owner. Had some common issues like AdBlue tank, AdBlue injector, thermostat, oil leak from the camshaft bed.
