High Beam LED upgrade possible? YES
#1
Hi All,

Do these vans complain if LED H1 high beam is installed?

I was considering these

***Update***
Yes these do work very well and are a direct fit.

It is your own responsibility to ensure that the use of the LED retrofit lights complies with applicable local legal requirements
"

Wordy waffle that equals - not road legal in the UK.

You can get a decent result for much less cost with bulbs like Osam Nightbreakers, their Philips equivalent, etc.

Legality, regardless of its enforceability will become an even bigger issue for headlamps soon

Like a lot of these things, though. It's just a Government setting up a committee to look at the blinding effects of a lot of these LED lamp units, it will probably take years to report back and then will it actually do anything about them? I find these LED units as a spectacles wearer, along with many others I suspect, especially dazzling at night.

It's another case of the technology moving much faster than any regulation. Think mobile phones in cars, electric scooters etc. by the time the legislators got around to doing something about them, the usage had become the 'norm' and now people get seriously upset when they get pulled up about them.

Getting back to the original point LED head lamps [either dipped or main beam] are not legal to be retro-fitted to any vehicle in the UK that has not had them fitted from new. This is because vehicles that do have them from new are checked to make sure the beam pattern is within the correct specification.

Retro-fitting LED headlamps is also an MOT failure item.

Philips Ultinon Pro 6000 are certified road legal in Germany for K9 Berlingo so it's just a paperwork issue for other countries.

I have them installed in low beams and I get some high beam notifications when the lenses are not completely clean but the view is beautiful, much better than halogens. The cutoff is exactly identical to halogens unlike some random LED plugnplays.

LED bulbs are legal on motorbikes in the UK so long as they do not dazzle others and have the correct pattern. I have an Auxito H4 in my bike and the cut-off is perfect, I also have their bulbs in the side lights on my Berlingo and they are very bright more like DRLs.

Yes it is possible.

I fitted a set of Philips Ultinon Pro 6000.

Direct fit and no error messages on the dash

Very bright

By notification I mean from other drivers, not by dash messages. Should've been more clear Big Grin
