[Warning Light] ABS Sensor Fault M59 1.6HDI
#1
Hi All,

I have a right hand drive Partner M59 1.6HDI (DV6BTED) that currently has an intermittent ABS warning light issue.

Sometimes the warning light stays on after startup and other times it comes on after driving for a period of time - seems to especially come on after driving at higher speeds over bumps with some harsher braking.

I have measured resistance on the two front wheel sensors, got 22.86MΩ on the drivers side and an open circuit on the passenger side. I don't currently have access to any diagnostic system at the moment.

Has anyone else experienced similar behaviour with their's and am I best off buying and fitting a new sensor for the side with the open circuit? Any other tips and tricks for solving this issue?

I have searched the forum and done a bit of googling but would appreciate opinions on how to proceed with this specific problem.

thanks a million
Henry

What you are experiencing with the 'intermittent' warning is how the system indication works, in that it reports a state when it cannot see a wheel speed sensor for whatever reason. The 'real time' warning only activates after you travel over about 30 mph, hence it will reset itself and then when you go above 30mph, if it cannot sense the wheel you will get a warning.

The fact you've got an open circuit on one of the sensor is probably a good indication that sensor is at fault but also check there is no dirt/debris between the end of the sensor and the sensor ring on the wheel as that can cause a fault indication as the sensor cannot detect wheel rotation.

Good info thanks, Same intermittent problem but I'm wondering whether to change it before my MOT tommorow but if it only activates above 30mph I might get away with it? What would you say the timing is on this job all going well?

I changed the sensor anyway as I'd bought a replacement but some rust delamination on the hub had deformed the sensor away from the rotor by quite a distance. Haven't checked the old sensor but it couldn't have helped.

New passenger side sensor did the trick for me, 30€ sensor and about half an hour to fit.
