M59 Horn woes and airbag removal
#1
I've read all the threads!

I've found the three holes on the wheel at rear, and used both flathead driver and a flat-topped hax key end to try and dislodge whatever holds the airbag in... to no avail.
what mechanism am I trying to dislodge and with what movement?

Interestingly, I earthed the column temporarily and then the horn worked, and it worked when I removed the temporary earth (screwdriver end). So is it possible that when a circuit is re-used after a period, it can 'blow through' the extra resistance which caused it to cease working?

I don't use my horn a lot...! I'll monitor the situation but getting inside the wheel might help, to see if those contacts are bad. Wiggling everything doesnt feel a professional fix.

Try you tube
Iirc?- there are spring rods across the holes that your tool has to move aside
The extra earth trick seems to have found your problem
I've had it on my current b9 and earthing didn't find the issue
It was a slightly furry fuse that caused itself to blow.
Don't discount corroded terminals on the horn itself
All these little things add up.
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

THanks - I'll persevere. And to add to all that, my brake lights arent working suddenly. MOT approaching... I'm starting to wonder about a later model....

You don't need to remove the steering wheel. I loosely wrapped some bare wire round the steering shaft lower down towards the foot pedals and then loosened a screw/nut in the area to fasten the wire too. It's been like that for a few years now without issue.

Are the brake lights permanently 'on'? If so it's the switch on the brake pedal - it fails to 'on'. Dead easy and cheap to replace.
