Tools ( specifically for front pad and disc change)

Hello there , hope someone can help, please?

Need to change front pads and discs, I have a whole range of tools, but noticed not the muiti point bits, what do I need , and what sizes?

Get a set of torx sockets, try to get a well known brand as the cheaper sets tend to snap.
Half decent from about £25- upwards.

There are female and male torx sockets/bits , a set with both will never see you stuck. The brakes need a male socket/bit for the disc and callipers.
Don't think there's much call for the female bits but you never know. The old ford escorts needed a female bit for the door hinge pins

Specifically for your front brake pad/disc change, the only specialised tools are:

7mm Allen key, for Caliper bolts.

E16 inverted torx [sometimes called torx socket] for Caliper frame

T30 torx for disc mounting screws.

Be aware the caliper mounting frame bolts are normally very tight [or corroded] so you might need a breaker bar to get those undone.

Just in case you’re not aware.

As far as I’m aware the Brake Caliper Bolts are stretch bolts (Torque to Yield).
They should always be replaced rather than reused.

There’s a special sequence when tightening them.
Tighten to specified torque and then tighten by an additional specified angle.

There's some good top tips in there on cleaning and re-greasing the caliper pins.

As Brod says get a set with both types but make sure they're impact rated and they will see you right for the future.
You would need female for the engine mount when doing a Cambelt change for example

Don't be tempted with the coated disks - waste of money....?
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Thank you all!!! We have ugga duggas * from light weight to assault ones lol,, breaker bars , long spanners, short spanners, a hydraulic press, R tech gas welder and plasma cutter, loads of 10mm sockets.. but "specialist" bits for the above job! Thank you
