[Filters & Oil] Engine oil sprayed out everywhere
#11
I'd not wash as such instead I'd just get some petrol and wipe over as much stuff as possible. - the visible stuff.

A bog roll should do the trick, peel off a handfull of paper wet it and wipe over the oily areas.
Some more dry bog roll to get the residue should do the trick.

As said above the remainder will dry of in time.

Amazon.
5/30 is also recommended for most dv6 variants if you check which you have, saving a bit more dosh
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

5W\30 should be absolutely fine. I would suggest Mannol 7908, eg, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372734889422

Under £20 normally, and can be had for less if you watch out for offers.

And despite what the listings often say, 7908 is a low SAPS C2 grade oil, see https://www.mannol.de/create-pdf/172/en

@geoff - I started off with kitchen roll then switched to the bog roll as you suggested and that worked better.  Much softer and got into all the nooks and crannies and worked a treat.  Thanks for the advice.

I spent best part of five hours cleaning today!  What a nightmare.  But now the engine is looking like new.  Really pleased.  I really didn't want to do steam or pressure washing for fear of getting water in the electrics.

Having difficulty getting the oil out of the soundproofing membrane though - I removed it and was scrubbing and pressure washing but the fabric is deteriorating.  Citroen want IRO £165.00 + vat so Ill be checking out the breakers yard.  Until then I'll put up with a bit of noise!

Thanks to everyone for support and advice.
