First cold startup metallic noise.

Hi there.

Now that in the mornings the weather is cold enough, a noise that I haven't heard since April has returned. The noise is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhEl9qm5sb4 can be heard at second 10 of the video, just after the ignition are turned on. It is like a metallic slack. It only sounds for this half of a second, and only the first time. If I turn it off, and back again on, this time the noise is not reproduced.

The date of April if significant because in these days I updated the camshaft chain to the 8 mm kit (at the date it only has 37k kms). Since in April temps were more warm, I didn't heard it since. But it seems not becase it was solved but it wasn't cold enough.

Now I wonder: since the noise happened before the chain upgrade, and now it is still present with the new chain, tensioner and everything (now it is at 42k hence, the chain and tensioner only have 5k kms)... it this sound normal? Should I be worried or it is just annoying? What else could it be apart from chain / tensioner?

As I mention, I also had the chain and the cams replaced. The noise is the same before and after the change. Did yours stop making the noise with the new kit? Also with cold weather no longer makes noise?

I decided to change that components because I thought that was the problem… I’m disappointed the same situation continues. Maybe it is just like that I don’t know

I stopped making the noise for the period I had it. But it was in the middle of summer.

Yeah same thing. Summer no noise on first start. So did you sell it?

Yes. Not intending to keep any of the Berlingos past the warranty period.

Sorry to say this but I had the same trouble had the timing chain replaced 80000 miles 6weeks later same problem so I bit the bullet and changed cars I miss my berlingo for comfort and practicality but I’m done with all the Adblue timing chain issues 7th berlingo ?

I don't want to give up on my berligo. As you say, the confort and practicality that offers can't be beaten... and even less with today's car prices. In the video linked, translating the comments there are some users that also say that have upgraded the chain and the noise it's there. It is strange... if it would be only the chain tensioner, I think it should make noise when you leave it settle for a long time when the oil drains, even in summer, doesn't it? But it only happens when temp drops.

Even if in fact it is the chain, I hope the new kit will handle, and it is only the annoyance of the noise in first ignition.

Yeah, that's what I though as well, a keeper for 10 years at least, suits my needs perfectly. Well, not anymore, back to Japanese vehicles.
