15k km hdi check engine light, limp mode

Hi all,

I've got less than a year (I know, still under warranty) 1,5 hdi 130 with 15k km on the clock


As I was driving uphill today, "engine malfunction" displayed and car went into limp mode.
It was quite a joy driving uphill in 1st gear.

I'll drive into the shop tomorrow (hope they'll take me in without an appointment), but I'm wondering what could it be.

There are no lights aside from amber wrench.

Is there a hidden menu on display so I could see the error code? Does anyone have a clue what could put it into limp mode? No emissions light is on, adblue should be full as I added it (on pump) 1000km ago.

I stopped by the dealer today and it was the dumbest thing ever, so I'll write it here if someone else stumbles upon the same problem.

Some facts first: 
- it's 11 months old, has 15k km on the odometer
- service interval is supposed to be 20k, but it started counting down to a year as I'm doing less
- service reminder  (currently "1100km / 5 weeks") is popping on the screen when I turn on the car.

I'm already scheduled for a service next week, and yesterday cat went into limp mode with "engine malfunction light".

OK, now to what's wrong (as the mechanic explained it to me): the car has internal counters of cold engine starts, hours of cold engine operation,...  When a certain threshold is reached, it assumes the oil quality is bad, triggers engine malfunction light and lump mode.

The stupid thing is, the engine "counter" and service indicator are not connected - it wouldn't be a problem if it shortened the interval so the owner knew to service it sooner then anticipated... but the two systems are disconnected and the service indicator only counts time and mileage!

Anyhow, given that I have service appointment  next week (they'll also align the factory-misaligned door), he reset the error and the car drives fine now.
