Opinions on added value.
#1
I am in a bit of a quandary.
I have a K9 that at the moment has a value (in Germany) of about 14,000 to 15,500 Euros (2019 Live Pure Tech 110M Stop&Start) with about 128,000km (approx. 79500 miles).
I've added to it a home made single person camper conversion. This is removable and the rear seats don't need to be removed to fit it. It's a five minute job to secure it in or take it out.

My wish is to sell the car but would I be better to do so -
a) Advertised as a camper?
b) Advertised as a car but for extra you can buy the camper part?
c) Just as a car and sell the camper boxes seperate?

Better meaning not only which could make me the most money but which would get me the most interest?
I see proper camper conversions selling for quite a few thousand Euros more that the base car is worth. In fact some seem a ridiculous amount, but, these are often professional fitments or even a basic car with a Boot Jump type set up and I wouldn't really have a clue as to how much extra money I could ask for or what the boxes would be worth as a seperate item.
Now a 2019 K9 1.2 petrol.
Before a 2010 B9 1.6 HDi diesel.

If the market is similar to the UK and I doubt it is that much different, small Berlingo type camper conversions seem to sell well for quite a bit more that the basic vehicle. I suspect this is to do with people liking the idea of a small camper that can be easily reverted to their everyday vehicle and most people nowadays either couldn't be bothered to build their own set up like yours, or do not have the hand skills to do it and the cost of buying one of the 'ready made' ones is quite high.

So what I'm saying here is, if it were me, I would try to sell it with the camper conversion unit included and pitch it at a lower cost that it would cost someone to buy a vehicle like yours plus a ready built camper conversion. Worst case scenario is that if you don't get any decent offers for the combined item just remove and sell the conversion separately, they quite often do appear on Ebay and even on this site.

I would 'big it up' in any advert showing photos of it in use [if you have any] plus don't forget to add plus points of a Berlingo type camper such as the fuel economy of a much smaller vehicle plus things like you only pay tolls for a normal car on French autoroutes, whereas a full blown larger camper van pays a higher toll.

I don't know in Germany but in UK the price that if you sell the van as a camper, is usually much more expensive than just a van. Although I think buy a used van and a camper conversion kit may be cheaper. You can find your local websites like autotrader or motors in UK, there is examples you can find on it.

Thanks to both of you for the advice.
I was unsure what to do but what you say agrees with my wife (a decades longer resident of Germany than myself) and I take note of the bigging it up thing which I'd not thought of.
The market in Germany is actually lot greater than in the UK, not only because of the population but also because of the easier access to the rest of Europe. I'm able to spend a lot of time in Europe and I do notice the vast amount of German plated campers everywhere. I was touring Greece a month or so ago and for every UK plated camper my impression was twenty to thirty German ones.

We have Mobil.de and Autoscout24 as two main websites which carry a lot of campers and I have been looking at them and have seen the extra being advertised. In some cases up to 5000 Euros above the value of my car just for putting in something akin to a bed platform and a kitchen unit. I'd probably price it mid-range and see what happens. The value to me was more the pleasure of making and using it than as a means to making a profit.
So thanks for making my mind up and as you say, if it doesn't sell as a combined unit then I'll just split it.
This has got me hankering to go out in it again but not when the weather is as it is at the moment.
