Locking wheel bolts
#1
Evening all
I've a 2016 PPT with the standard alloys and of course the standard locking wheel bolts. Had to try to change a wheel today and the flippin' locking part spun off the central steel stud. I've tried hammering it back on and then being really careful about holding the wheel brace as square on to the stud as possible, but it now just spins.
First question - has this happened to anyone else?
Second question - how did you get it off?
I get I'll need to buy a set of four standard hex head studs to replace them, but how do i get the busted one off?
Thanks
Jim

My step daughter took her skoda to our local alloy wheel specialist with a failed locking bolt and they took the stupid thing out very quickly.
Somehow.
She unusually took good advice when offered and let them put standard type bolts back in all round instead.
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Problem now solved.
Took the garage nearly an hour to very carefully drill out enough of the head of the bolt that the wheel could be lifted off. Then the remaining stump of the bolt was gripped with V large Stilson wrench and wound out.
Wallet now £70 lighter.
The moral of this story, don't overtighten your wheel studs and unless you've got mega expensive aftermarket alloys, just swap to standard hex headed bolts. Euro car parts - 4 for just over £9.
