Drop in fuel economy
#1
Hi, I'm new to posting on this forum.

I have a 2017 , 1.6 HDI Berlingo and my fuel economy has dropped from a normal 58 mpg to a 53 mpg ( so 520 to 400 miles per 3/4 tank) in the last couple of weeks, I'm doing they same journey day in day out on the same road, I've checked the tyre pressures , fluids etc.  Does anyone have any ideas what could have caused this.

Many thanks

What kind of mileage has your Berlingo covered? I'm asking as a higher mileage example [or even a low mileage example that only does short journeys] could be suffering from a clogged DPF which can cause MPG to drop. Has the vehicle been doing a number of regens?

I agree with Evdama and possible binding calipers, have had that affecting MPG a few times over the years, especially in winter due road salt etc.

Also agree with Shtu about the colder weather in general - and then consider it could be caused by ‘winter diesel’ being used just now in the UK, some folk suggest that increases fuel consumption slightly..?

Totally agree with this - last week temps most days were below 0 degrees, even the older B9's take a good 10 miles to warm up. Also don't forget diesel fuel will be on its winter grade now and wont be as efficient

Every day is a school day, I never realised that there was such a thing as winter diesel.
