2.0HDI Fuel Filter Wrench, An Appraisal
#1
Berlingo mk11 2.0 HDI with Siemens type fuel filter housing.

Ordered one of these from e-bay, unfortunately it arrived 2 days after I had managed to do the job using a large flat bladed screwdriver after an aborted attempt using a strap-wrench as described in another posting....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HDi-Fuel-Filte...4ab0b81275

Also listed in Machine Mart catalogue....

I was lucky that I was able to undo the filter housing without damaging it, if I had broken it I would probably be looking at £80.00 plus to replace so the price of the proper tool to do the job is relatively cheap.

Having bought the tool, I had to try it to see if it would fit. Quite robust in build (10mm anodised alloy plate I think) and a good fit on the serrated lugs around the housing, I tried firstly by tightening and then slacking off the collar before finally nipping up slightly over hand tight, as long as no leaks are present and the filter is not drawing air into the system I see no reason to overtighten.

So that is it, yet another tool in my armoury but it will get used as I intend to replace fuel filter at every oil change interval for piece of mind...

I've always removed my fuel filter by hand.

No disrespect but you must have a grip like a gorilla then Steve. I tried and couldn't shift mine, mind you perhaps a rock-ape had tightened it down previously. While it is in my ownership it won't be sogged down quite so hard...

It was wound down pretty hard when I first got it admittedly. I don't do it up so tight.

Sometimes it helps having shovel like hands!

Going to purchase one of these as it was a nightmare changing the fuel filter this weekend.

Me too

Have changed all oil and filters in my van since buying it but was very apprehensive about the fuel filter, so this should do the trick:thumbsup:

I did mine after 1st getting one from the local scrappy just in case. wouldnt move on the car with a strap wrench or by hand. took it of and loosley clamped in the vice with the mounting lugs braced against diagonaly against the jaws wrapped a rag around it with a two handed grip and it came undone without to much difficulty, I wonder if the way they are mounted on the engine causes the body to deform under the twisting motion. Hence I now have available a s/h fuel filter assy ( the front lug that a metal hose clip goes on is broken, the lingo it came was somewhat defficient in the frontal area) I am willing to swap for a pair of plastic headlight gaurds for an M49?
