Hi folks
going to look at an 18 reg 1.6lt petrol, body has a few battle scars, is there anything I need to look at or check on before shelling out hard cash ?
don't do the miles needed for a diesal to run the DPF ( Mrs used to have a vauxhall zafira were I fitted a light when DPF was running, lots of times we needed to do extra 10 miles+ to clear DPF/regen)
want a Belingo to replace my old Citroen Picasso 2.0lt diesal workhorse, got used to being able to remove rear seats in seconds to turn car into van

Paint peeling under the bonnet
Rear wheel alignment
Sticking rear brake caliper
Never had a petrol Berlingo but Id imagine the exhaust would rot a bit quicker.
Not so many petrol engine ones around so the knowledgebase/folklore wont be as plentiful.
Chassiswise Its usually no worries if you are open minded about old mass produced french cars.
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

You haven't mentioned whether the vehicle you are going to look at is a Berlingo Multispace or a Berlingo Van. The reason being the van version are in a higher VED bracket, so something to bare in mind.
Also and I'm sure you realise this, all the petrol versions both 1.4 and 1.6 are not great on the MPG front but as I note you state you won't be doing the mileage you're probably not that worried about that.

it was a multispace, and it has to be petrol for my useage, diesal regen woud be a pain for me as I never cover enough one way driving to get the dpf to work
it wasat the auction (always get my car there) this one had bad damage to side sliding door, either filling & painting (been long time since I sprayed car body panel) or easier to put on second hand door
went to high price for me CAP clean price is £6700, this went for £7150 all in
so back to looking again

A van in similar condition would be a fraction of that.
If you dont keep your vehicles for long years then the extra road tax could possibly be completely offset by the saving in purchase price.
It is on my to do list.

I want the car version, as its the best of both worlds, seats for 5 if ever needed, or put out back seats (and sometimes front passenger) and i can fill with timber or upvc doors etc
just took out rear seats in my old picasso (2 mins to take out and put into my garage) went to wood yard fitted in couple lengths of 3mt treated treated timers for raised beds

Can I ask, why do you want to get rid of your Picasso, as even though that is a diesel, I don't think they actually had a DPF fitted being a Euro 4 [or earlier?] diesel, so that shouldn't be an issue with your present vehicle? I only got rid of my Picasso because I was offered a good deal on my original Berlingo. I saw a video recently about a Picasso that had done more than 500,000 miles and was still going...

If I wasn't living close to the ULEZ zone I would have actually kept my 2008 B9 Berlingo Multispace 1.6Hdi [which also didn't have a DPF]

That's fair enough. The only problem is that, as you're finding, the Petrol Berlingo are 'like rocking horse droppings' as not many were produced as the fuel economy on the petrol versions is not great to put it mildly, plus the ULEZ effect in that many petrol versions were bought up by people who wanted a Berlingo sized vehicle but didn't want to pay the ULEZ fee in the London area [or many other cities that have now introduced such emission charges] That's why, as you're finding, the second hand prices of the petrol Berlingo are so high.
If you're not in [or near] a ULEZ type area it might be worth you looking for an older [but good condition] early [Euro-IV] Berlingo B9 [or Peugeot Partner as they are the same vehicle] as they did not have a DPF until about 2010 [but do check individual vehicle, as some had it fitted earlier] My 2008 non-DPF 1.6Hdi XTR used to return mid 50s MPG all the time
The other thing to remember with the Berlingo, if you like the flexibility of the individual removable seats, you need to go for a model that has those [I know the XTR model had the individual removable rear seats but not sure what other models did] as some of the lower end models just had a split folding rear bench type seat.

thanks for that
we had a zafira 58 reg, that had a DPF on it and it was a pain as Mrs only did 10 miles each way to work, so every time the DPF light came on "regen" ( I fitted the light myself) she had to drive up/down A1 to get the regen done
we got the zafira as we used to take a few lads to youth football matches at weekend
