Sump, Any good swear words?
#1
So, a month after replacing the sump, I hit another poxy rock, denting the new sump.
No oil light, dent seems slight, no worry & I drive back.
Now at idle the oil light is on.

Worst case scenario, the oil pickup was blocked enough to damage the bearings on the way back,
but not blocked enough to trigger the oil light.

Wish me luck tomorrow when I take it apart.

Lots of swear words but I had better not type them  Confused

Hope it works out ok.

If this is a regular problem for you, a strong sump guard could be worth the effort.

I think the pattern part sump I fitted last month was of much softer steel, a one hit wonder.

The previous one was a genuine Ford TDCi one, (half the price of PSA), & took about five good hits.

But it might just be bad luck, that the pan's first dent, is bulls eye to the mouth of the pickup pipe.

It's apart, & no forbidden glitter in the bottom of the sump & the big ends haven't blued, the pickup pipe hasn't cracked.
So being the eternal optimist, I'll beat the pan straight, solder any cracks after the beating, dirko it all up (other sealants are available) and after the tedious wait for the sealant to cure, pour the oil back in & hopefully......................

Mines is badly scored so Im really glad I can put up with the wretched thing...
It is on my to do list.

Never had one, I assume lost in the 15 years of previous owners.
Was it actually a proper steel tray for the Escapade?

I never bothered getting another as I assumed it was the usual overpriced plastic gash.
but.........................if it was a proper steel jobby?

Oh, and I dodged the bullet, no funny noises, no oil light, power seems the same.
So celebratory beverage of choice. Cool

So with replacement sump pans,
genuine might save, or at least delay grief,
as though mine fitted perfectly,
I think the metal is thinner & or softer,
so more susceptible to damage.

The plastic one is tough and heavy-would go along way to prevent a repeat of all this.
It is on my to do list.
