Ahh, got to love Citroen and their product design (lack of).
If you are ever faced with replacing the tank sender, here's some tips. This was on a 2011 diesel with an ELOYS system, but most will be very similar.
On the four tank mountings, wire-brush and soak in penetrating oil, and wind them to and fro. You really really don't want to snap one of the mounting studs off, so do these first and take your time, wind the nuts foward and back as often as necessary. I also did the same to the fuel cooler.
Other items I removed - spare wheel and carrier, nearside arch liner, rear silencer mounts. You don't need to remove the eloys tank it's fixed to the fuel tank, but there is one nut to remove that holds it to the body.
The design of the tank means you can't fully remove it without also removing the axle and exhaust, but there is enough space to lower the tank and swap the part out. Dropping the exhaust onto the axle is essential to get the space needed.
You don't need to remove any unions other than the ones on the sender, which are easy to remove. I also unmounted the fuel cooler, but left the fuel lines connected.
Leave the tank fixed in place to undo the locking ring, which can be done with a hammer and drift. Once you have that loose, the tank can be dropped down, supported using a trolley jack. Don't forget to undo the single bolt up near the top of the filler neck.
The mounting straps catch onto the threads of the mounting studs, so you will need to prise them down.
Edit - a small right-angle pick is an almost essential tool for undoing the electical connector at the sender (and the eloys tank), sets like in this link are dirt-cheap and unbelievably handy once you have them.

Lastly - do yourself a favour and run the tank as low as you possibly can.
