Jealousy, loyalty, the French.... and Starter Motors!
#1
Hi folks!
I have a 2005 M59 1.9 Which has never let me down, despite all of the neglect and abuse I have subjected her to.
Today, I finished work early and decided to go and "look at" another car, with a view to buying it. A journey of approx 50 miles. I looked over the 'new' car and took it for a test-drive etc. .
After 5 miles of the return journey, still undecided.. I decided to stop for a smoke and a think.....
I got back in the 'lingo and...... nuffink, nada!
Rescued by The AA and towed home, diagnosis (probably) starter-motor.
Now, obviously my French partner (!) of nine years and 50,000 miles of faultless reliabilty (almost), is jealous and furious that I should even look at another!

I have looked in the usual places for replacement starter-motors, putting the reg number in, but they all seem to offer various, completely different replacements! Without crawling underneath and taking the old one off, how can I know which part to buy?
If I post the VIN, on here, could one of you folks advise with a part number please? Thank you!

If you put your VIN in the catcar info site [after selecting Citroen] that should narrow it down a bit.

https://www.catcar.info/citroen/?lang=en

Had a quick look on the site after adding your VIN and it looks as if a number of different starter motors were fitted: https://shorturl.at/56vWU

So you might have to get under the vehicle to check, which is probably a good thing anyway, as the M59 model does suffer a bit with starter motor leads either corroding or working loose, so it might only be a loose/corroded lead [remember to check both ends of the leads]

Thank you so much @Multispacer!
Even from my "non-mechanic" POV, a corroded or broken-off cable makes more sense than a sudden failure of a starter-motor..
I'll have a crawl about underneath later, and report back!

Update. Thanks to t'internet etc I have replaced the starter. I feel very proud and smug, but TBF, it was ridiculously easy! Disconnect battery, pull off the air-intake system/boxes, (one bolt needs to be from underneath) so dog can see rabbit, three 13mm hex-bolts, and the two nuts that hold the cables to the starter..
My local Euro Car Parts "Only one in stock in the whole country!" But my local GSF.. Yes we have one here! I took the old one off before getting the new one, and you get an exchange discount..
Slam the new one back on and.. Starts like a champ!
Good for another 200,000km!
@Multispacer Thank you! But your links appear to be dead-links..
