I have a 2019 Berlingo XL Flair 1.5 hdi which had done around 39k miles when I bought it last January. It had some initial problems where the EML kept coming on and adblue countdown. It was eventually diagnosed as having faulty dpf and valves which the dealers replaced for me, and ever since has been running fine.
Not long after it had been repaired, I took it on a holiday to south Wales, checked the oil when I got there and the dipstick was bone dry! But no warning lights had come on and the car was not showing any other symptoms such as smoke or oil leaks. I put 2.6 litres of oil in it, so was rather alarmed as it was supposed to have had a major service previous to my purchase. I have since been keeping a very close eye on on the oil level, and sometimes it doesn't seem to use much, but other times it seems to be drinking it (for instance last time I checked from full it had done 420 miles and I had to top up 0.8 litres).
It's been back twice to the dealers and both times they have said they can't find any problems - there are no oil leaks, smoke, any evidence of oil in the engine bay anywhere and the car runs absolutely fine.
Would there be any reason for intermittent heavy oil use? I would have thought if there was a problem it would be present all the time, not some of the time - and there are no symptoms at all. But constantly topping up with oil especially the one I'm supposed to use with this engine (Ineo Quartz RCP) is going to be quite expensive. I'm doing another test from a full top up and will be getting them to look at it again, but wondered if anyone had any ideas?
